Cyberlink PowerDVD All Black Skin
In Cyberlink PowerDVD I’ve always hated how they have not had a skin that was just all black. It really is annoying because when you are watching a DVD and the show ends you have to look at a stupid background picture. If you have all the lights turned off that background picture can even hurt your eyes. Sometimes I will watch something before I goto bed and when the show is over I have to get up to turn off the monitor because it is too bright.
After some searching on Google, I came across some awesome skins for PowerDVD 7 created by Herby. One of the skins called “Not Alone” (The theme song of The 4400) was the closest thing I could get to an all black theme. I really think Cyberlink PowerDVD is an all together ugly piece of software, especially with all the Upgrade/Activate junk all throughout their settings dialog and the lame skins they have to choose from. I finally got fed up with PowerDVD’S fugliness and downloaded a resource editor and changed the “Not Alone” skin so that it was all in black.
If anybody is interested, you can download it here.

haha, hey man! I was searching around the net just now specifically for a fix on the ugly skins cyberlink provides. So cool you made the bg black…that pic of the girl on v7.0 just looks like ugly betty from the us sitcom.
Nice work dude!

Perfect. Sanity restored again. That v7 girls smile is like fingernails on chalkboard. Thanks for your effort.

Thanks for sharing. I was searching the web for another skin that wasn’t so unattractive (all those logos and such). Yours is perfect. I downloaded it and it looks great! Thanks again.

Beautiful! Thanks for sharing. I’ve always hated their default skin. And the red always temporarily burns in my screen (I fear a permanent burn in if I keep using it) plus I agree it’s hard on the eyes. too bright. and those lame ads. this is perfect!

Thanks for the elegant plain black background! The cyberlink girl looks a lot like my former accountant, who disapproved of my non business related computer hobby! I surely don’t want to see her each time I play a BD or HD disc!!

How did you change this in the resource editor? Which resource should one replace if they want to make their own skin? Thanks in advance!

I used: http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/ You have to open up the dll which contains the skin and edit it. You’ll have to figure the rest out for yourself.

Thanks. This is awesome. The default skin is quite unprofessional and this all black, simple powerdvd skin is exactly what I was looking for.

Hmmm,.. Not Alone is one of the modified skins by me, it’s not included with PowerDVD.
Differences between these and the default skins (Mercury & Onyx): Smaller Taskbar Mode
Removed: DVD logo, Feature Icons, Cyberlink logo’s, Colour themes & the Upgrade button.
Changed the AutoHideDuration (Fullscreen) to 1000 (= 1 second) instead of 3000, replaced the Backgrounds, changed the Step backward and Step forward buttons and commands to Rewind and Fast forward.

My mistake I thought it was included with PowerDVD pro or something and it was being made available on that site. You did a really good job on those skins. I modified the post to give you credit. Thanks.

No matter about the photo of the girl, or the color of the screen, the all black skin you have given us provides an opportunity for us to relax and enjoy our movies without advertisements and bright red. Kudos!

Nice one, thank you for taking the time and effort to publish this.
It’s a relief to get that insanely grinning woman off my television once and for all, What was Cyberlink thinking ??

If someone could modify the blonde chick by adding a goatee beard and a lit joint or smoking a hog? That’d be a good skin to keep, too. Send that one to Cyberlink.

i need skin power dvd
thank you

These modified PowerDVD skins are still really useful – if you thought the native PowerDVD 7 screen was bad, wait until you see PowerDVD 9 with its MoovieLive advert. Stick to PowerDVD 7, use one of the black skins and your eyes will thank you.
