Maxtor Personal Storage 3100 and Vista / 7 (SOLVED)!

August 23rd, 2009

I was trying to help somebody getting their Maxtor Personal Storage 3100 device working on Windows 7. It is an 100GB external USB hard drive.

After looking all over the Internet, I came across a post which mentioned it was a problem with the external hard drive not working with USB 2.0 ports. Since the person I was trying to help didn’t have a USB 1.1 hub to connect the external hard drive to, I mentioned that they should connect it to the USB hub on their Dell monitor, and then connect the Dell monitor to the computer via USB. And it worked!
