The Quest for the Perfect Media Server
I’ve been trying to build a light-weight computer that can store multiple hard-drives. In fact, I now have 8×500GB hard drives. I tried building a Lian-Li PC-V350 based media PC thinking it would hold up to 4 hard drives, as it looked like it would, but unfortunately it only holds 2. Somebody needs to make a small case that holds a bunch of hard drives. I have been researching a good device for several months, but haven’t found one. Even trying out various NAT devices, I found out that most of them either require you to purchase it with the hard drives or don’t work with hard drives that already have data on them but require you to format them. Anyways, so I am selling the media pc that I built on eBay. I’ve already begun building a 2U rackmount Supermicro server that holds up to 8 hard drives. I decided if I really want to have a computer that will help me consoldate all my hard drives storage needs I might as well just build a server. I could have gone for a server tower, but that is just so ghetto. Rackmount is the way to go.
